Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) saves lives!
The process of TNR is the humane approach to addressing community cat overpopulation. By fixing the animals they live healthier lives. This stops breeding and therefore stops annoying breeding behaviors like fighting and yowling, and overall reduces the nuisances to the community.
How it works:
In a Trap-Neuter-Return program the community cats are humanely trapped with box traps, taken to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped (see photo of Emma with her left ear tipped), and then returned to the outdoor environment they came from.
Emma didn't make it to the "R" in TNR. She was friendly and able to be adopted!
Relocation is ineffective and even dangerous!
Relocation of community cats (feral cats) is an absolute last resort and should only be considered if a cat is in imminent danger. Cats are territorial and form strong bonds with their outdoor homes, so relocation is extremely stressful and risky.
